Homeschool / Youth Art Classes
Black Barn offers serious drawing & painting curriculum for youth, whether your young artist is homeschooled, or off for the summer. We offer weekly classes at a monthly rate, as well as occasional intensive workshops - all to help fuel your young artist's creativity and help them grow artistically through skill building and development of techniques.

Drawing Classes

Fridays 10:00am-12:00pm
Materials Provided: Pencil, Pen, & Paper,
$125 + tax includes all materials for in class work, however we recommend each student have their own materials for practicing at home. Sketchbooks are also helpful for having in class and working out visual ideas and compositions.

September Drawing - Natural Elements
Students will spend class time exploring natural elements - specific objects and pieces of the natural world, trees, rocks, water, clouds, etc, learning how to see the basic shapes and textures and recreate them with drawing tools as individual elements.
Students will eventually pull all these elements together in a beautiful landscape drawing at the end of the month.

October Drawing - Human Anatomy & the Skeleton - The Structure of Figure Drawing
Study human anatomy in a drawing class with Derek Gundy & Farren Moss. Each week students will study parts of the skeletal system, muscles, & also develop free hand drawings of the figure demonstrating what they have learned from studying the underlying structure.
Painting Studio Classes

Fridays 1:00-3:00pm
During the months of July & August students will be able to explore and experiment with all mediums. We are opening up the painting studio to create work in the mediums watercolor, gouache, & acrylics.
$125 + tax includes all materials for in class work. Students may use brushes that remain with the studio and can help themselves to canvases from Derek's upstairs "shop". Students working in watercolor can be provided with a loaded palette that becomes theirs, and we'll provide basic brushes that can become the property of the students so they can continue to work at home as well.
This class is appropriate for students with a little prior painting experience who have been wanting to develop skills in painting pursuing unique projects with guidance from Farren & Derek.
Sept Fridays - 4th, 11th, 18th, & 25th
Oct Fridays - 9th, 16th, 23rd, & 30th (NO CLASS OCT 2nd)

Want to register your young artist for double sessions on the same day? For example Drawing on Fridays from 10-12, and Painting from 1-3?
We offer a 20% bundle discount for one student taking two classes on the same day. They are welcome to bring a lunch, and enjoy a lunch break from 12-1 in between classes
