Light & Shadow Watercolor Project

Illustrator Derek Gundy finds his creative passion in the painting of light & shadow, especially incorporated with architectural elements. Derek will guide students through a NEW unique project based on his travel photo reference.

Students will have a chance to learn and develop through the following aspects.

Transferring of line drawing (created by your instructor)

​Proper Watercolor Wash & Transparent Bloc-In Techniques

Layering Techniques
-
Color Mixing

Composition & Arrangement of Values

Design of and Painting of Shadows

Students will leave this workshop with a beautiful Italian painting with stunning light & shadow.
​
Participants are encouraged to bring their lunch, snacks, and beverages - we'll break for lunch at some point during the day.
​
Some watercolor experience recommended.
These paintings are examples of Derek's professional artwork, but not used for main class project
About Derek Gundy
Derek has worked in art education for much of his career and teaches Drawing, Figure Drawing, Watercolors, Acrylics, and Illustration & Visual Storytelling. Derek is also in his 8th year of teaching at Northwest College of Art & Design in Tacoma, WA.
His freelance work focuses on architectural drawings and paintings, catering to clients with custom home illustrations or renderings of businesses.
