About your instructor

Derek Gundy has dedicated a large part of his life to Art Education. Growing up in a thriving family business that featured art supplies, custom picture framing, & a fine art gallery, Derek's direction in life was always headed toward the arts.

Derek's work over the years has been leaning into Illustration - drawing & painting to communicate visual storytelling through his imagery. Themes & Subjects over the years have included portraiture, fish & sea creatures, wine themed whimsical artwork, and more recently architectural renderings and paintings.

Two particular principles that Derek believes are essential for all imagery are the use of light & shadow, and the correct use of perspective.

Derek works in a variety of media, but watercolor is truly one of his favorite. He is an Artist Ambassador for M. Graham Paint and is currently featured as an artist on their website. Derek uses all 4 mediums - Oil, Gouache, Watercolor, & Gouache, and has been using this brand exclusively for over 20 years.
